At Kyveli’s stage debut, Romeo was played by Mitsos Myrat. He would also become her first husband. The young actor from Smyrna who had just returned from studying in Paris was so impressed by her beauty and artistic achievements that he courted her and convinced her to marry him.
Kyveli was just 15 years old. Their marriage only lasted three years, from 1903 to 1906 but they had two children both born in 1905: Alexandros and Miranda, the actress. Curiously. Kyveli never loved Myrat. “You are the children and grandchildren of the man I hated” she later confessed to her granddaughters.
